The accused participated in the killing of five Polish inmates during the so-called Polish Action, during which the prisoners were forced to stand on the roll call square for three days and three nights without any food as a reprisal for an escape attempt of one of them. In the course of these three days the accused fatally mistreated two prisoners with a sledge hammer and killed another three by forcing a water hose in their mouths, causing water to run into their bodies until the victims were dead
