EX POST FACTO is a platform for historical research and documentation, devoted mainly to the legal-historical project 'Justiz und NS-Verbrechen'. The project dates back to the mid-nineteen-sixties of the previous century, when criminal lawyer C.F. Rüter of the University of Amsterdam started with the collection and publication of the West-German trial judgments concerning Nazi crimes. Over the years a total of 49 volumes with these West German judgments were published, covering the entire post-war era up until January 2012. Added to this documentation were the 14 volumes with East German trial sentences from 1945-1990.

With the appearance of volume 49 of the West-German series, the printed edition of Justiz and NS-Verbrechen has been completed. The judgment documentation is now also available on-line: see www.junsv.nl. Trial judgments passed after January 2012 are published on-line only.

About two decades ago, the editors of the JuNSV-project decided to set up a website with systematic overviews of the German trials. Up till now, this website has been kindly hosted on the internet site of the Law Faculty of the University of Amsterdam - long-time home base of the project. As the Law Faculty relocated to new premises in Amsterdam, last summer, we decided that, for organizational reasons, the time had come to move our site as well. This is our new location. Don't worry though, for the rest has remained as it was.

As earlier, you will also find the overviews of war crimes' trials by American military courts as well as by Dutch courts (available in Dutch and German only).

Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. As before, we will do our best to help you with your research questions.

Yours sincerely,

Prof.Dr. C.F. Rüter
